Kingtsugi Stitch
This work revisits an early principle of Kintsugi, where broken ceramics were repaired with metal brackets before the use of gold-infused lacquer. Here, the stone appears almost stitched together, creating a tension between the hardness of the material and the delicacy of the intervention.
The polished metal “stitches” catch the light and create precise highlights across the surface. At the same time, the polished backing plate becomes visible within the cracks, reflecting light deep into the sculpture and giving the fractures an unexpected sense of depth. Depending on the angle and intensity of the light, these reflections continuously shift, making the repair itself an active part of the work.
